History
Alaskan Klee Kai National Rescue, Inc., was formed in 2008 in an effort to have a unified rescue organization responsible for the Alaskan Klee Kai breed. During the Summer of 2008, the two UKC breed clubs for the Alaskan Klee Kai breed jointly agreed to the formation of ONE rescue for the breed. These momentous votes cast by both clubs are a true testimonial of their willingness to work together for the betterment of the breed and its future. The Alaskan Klee Kai National Rescue was born, created as its own entity, to be able to serve all AKK in need of rescue with the support of the wonderful AKK community. Alaskan Klee Kai National Rescue, Inc. was incorporated in the State of Kansas on November 20, 2008, with our founding Board of Directors - Lanie Crawford, President; Alan Wiebelhaus, Treasurer; and Lori Stoltz, Secretary. We obtained our Federal EIN number as a 501c3 non-profit charity organization shortly after on November 25, 2008. During that first month of operation in 2008 we rescued and re-homed two Alaskan Klee Kai - Timber and Dakota. Our initial Bylaws were written in early 2009 and were voted on and approved by the Board of Directors - Lanie Crawford, President; Lenor Lynas, Treasurer; and Kristi Dushek, Secretary on September 30, 2009. On December 15, 2009 Alaskan Klee Kai National Rescue sent our formal 501c3 declaration application to the IRS. This formal declaration provides us the opportunity to work with more shelters and other rescue organizations in our rescue and re-homing efforts. During 2009 we rescued and re-homed six Alaskan Klee Kai; Bear, Kodiak, Kai, Jack, Joe, and Robbie. In early 2010, we decided it was time to debut an official logo representing our rescue and the Alaskan Klee Kai Breed. We want to thank Bruce Bowers with Dr. CAS Custom Lettering and Design for his excellent work on the AKKNR Logo. On February 16, 2010 we received a formal declaration from the IRS confirming our official governmentally recognized 501c3 status as a Tax Exempt Public Charity. During 2010 we attended the Kansas City Pet Expo, held our first May Day's - Dog Days of Summer Auction, and rescued and re-homed five Alaskan Klee Kai; Kinney, Taz, Charmn, Kyli, and Takoda. *** Now over twelve years in operation, AKKNR has seen an increasing number of rescue cases and other types of assistance for AKK in need. We are extremely grateful for the continued support, donations, and volunteer work from the Alaskan Klee Kai community, and look forward to helping AKK for many more years to come. |
